Bye-bye summer

Hi friends and family,

The chilly nights dipping down into the mid 70's resulted in reluctance from Easton and Layla to swim. We jumped in this evening and found the 85 degree water to be refreshing. Not so much for the twins. They sat on the first step with their feet barely in the water enough to splash us. Layla has a fever of 101 degrees so she has an excuse why it felt a little colder than she would like.

GOma coaxed them into the pool slowly and they did a few laps before asking to go inside. It appears the summer swim season is almost officially over. one more day of dealing with that and I'm going to hang up the arm band floaties. As a summary of their swimming accomplishments here is a short list.

- They hold their breath and put their face in the water or blow bubbles
- They float on their backs with the assistance of the floaties and kick across the pool
- Layla will run and jump from the side and Easton jumps from the top step.
- They love to run like Dash (from The Incredibles). Meaning, I pick them up in the pool and they pretend to run across the water as I swing them around.
- Prior to getting out of the pool we take off their floaties and push them under water towards the step as they kick.

Should be interesting to see what progress they make on the first day of summer next year when considering they will spend so many months away from the pool, but grow and mature between now and then.

GOma and I took the twins to Lowe's to buy home supplies. In the parking lot Layla jumped out on my side of the car so I took the opportunity to catch a picture of us.

The twins ran up and down the isles eventually stopping at the display of sliding glass doors. As if he doesn't get enough of peek-a-boo at home all day, Easton slid the door and screamed like crazy.

And, of course, Layla didn't want to be out-done so she gave it a try as well.

Easton does well to keep his emotions under control when he is sick. Layla has a more difficult time with that so she had a few time-out moments tonight. I sure hope she feels better soon.

Our time with Neill and Jenny is proving to be more interesting and fun than we expected (and our expectations were really high to begin with). Last night we were all laughing so hard I had to lay down on the floor because my stomach muscles hurt so bad. It was THAT funny for that long. seriously. We've been staying up until 11:00 PM every night talking. Kendra is usually in bed by 9:30, but we lose track of time and it's very well worth it.

When Layla hopped out of the bath tub she was shivering. I wrapped her up in two big, fluffy towels to warm her up and take advantage of the short opportunity to cuddle with her. She's such a shooting star that it is an ultra-rare situation when she is sitting still in my arms for more than a few seconds.

As I sat on the floor holding Layla she asked to go see GOma. More specifically, she wanted me to carry her in there. My back injury is MUCH better, but I'm still not in any shape to carry anything. None the less I stood up and carried her into the living room. GOma got Layla's blanket where she rested like a bug in a rug for a few minutes.

To top it all off for the twins, they experienced an unplugged (a capella) version of Jenny's singing for their bed-time songs. How privileged they are without even knowing it.

See you soon!

GOma and GOpa

Greetings friends and family,

I'm not sure about the proper greeting for this somber 9/11 memorial day, but all I can say is that we must never forget what happened, how it happened, and who did it. I try to stay away from politics on the blog, but this has nothing to do with politics. It's just good ole' fashioned patriotism for the USA.

Yesterday we welcomed Neill and Jenny into our home for a week of both excitement and relaxation. They are known as GOma and GOpa, which stands for "GREAT Old Ma" and Pa. Kendra's parents are Oma and Opa so we added the G onto the names because they are like great grandparents to the twins. Also, the name has GO in it because the two of them go, go, go without ever tiring. It's becoming a race every day to see if the twins wear them out or vice versa. We spent the day playing with the twins and the evening talking their ear off until very late.

We celebrated the first day of fall by opening every window and door in the house this morning. We know it is the first day of fall because the temperature dipped below 80 degrees for the first time in 4 months. That's right... The night time low was 77 and that means as soon as I rolled out of bed it was time to pop the cork and swap out the 4-month-old air. I plagiarized part of that line from The Chronicles of Riddick.

Anyway, the second part of our fall celebration led us to the duck park immediately after breakfast. All we needed was a blanket in the shade.

and bread for the ducks! The hungry fowl practically mobbed them on the ground and almost took a piece of bread sitting right on Goma's toe.

Easton and Layla also took advantage of the local playground equipment to get some climbing exercise. Layla's hair is extra cute with a single pony tail on top like Bam-Bam.

I tried to get a normal picture of Easton standing close by, but he charged me like a raging bull and I snapped this one just before he ran me over.

The best news of the day is that Easton's fever broke yesterday morning so we didn't have to take him back to the doctors for all the testing. I guess it was just a nasty virus hanging on for a few days... Whatever it was, we are relieved to have our healthy boy back on his game and feeling well again.

The two of them ran their hearts out across the expansive park lawn. Unfortunately they have yet to learn the meaning of "stop!" even though Layla can spell it and knows the sign language motions. Kendra yelled it as they headed towards the fence separating them for the street, but neither of them stopped. I just shook my head because it is hard for me to reconcile the fact that an 8 month old dog can be taught to obey the command, stop, but our 2 and a half year olds don't even pause their stride. At least Kendra's back is healed enough for her to chase them down.

Such is life. They'll get it eventually!

One of my hopes for next week is for Easton, Neill, and I to visit the airplane meuseum in Tucson. All three of us are very interested in planes so it could be an interesting day trip. :)

See you soon!

staying positive

Hi friends and family,

Times have been tough at the casa de Webb during the past week. My usual post full of good times and adventures will be supplemented with a dose of reality and difficulty.

First, the bad news... My lower back injury is still contorting my spine and plaguing me with pain. Kendra's back injury resulted from her doing all of the work I would have done if my back wasn't injured. And to top things off, Easton's fever has lasted 3 days now and is still ongoing.

My typical mantra is to stay positive and see the glass overflowing as opposed to half full or half empty. However, the past week has really beat me (and us) down to a level so low I can't remember the last time things were this difficult.

Easton's fever was so bad he was physically shaking occasionally. The Pediatrician says the reaction is somewhat common and she didn't seem overly concerned. He is normally the happiest guy you ever met, but lately he's understandibly sluggish. Poor guy didn't even make it through a car ride home in the afternoon without dozing off.

Neither of the twins have fallen asleep on me since they were a year old. I can't even remember the last time one of them sat still with me for more than 2 minutes unless a movie was playing. However, this afternoon Easton said he wanted to stay in my chair with me and then fell asleep. As much as I dislike Easton being sick, it was really sweet to have him resting with me.

We may have to take Easton to the doctors for blood work, x-rays, and tests on Friday morning. I sure hope his fever breaks so he can avoid the stress.

And to top off our list of difficulties we are fighting ants who took over the kitchen. We called for backup in the form of professional pest control services, but it still takes time for the ants to get the "keep out" message. You can imagine the havoc our ant situation is playing on our spending fast and efforts to eat at home consistently. Luckily, grace abounds and In N Out is just down the street.

That's all of the pity party I can handle... Now on to the good news. The Chiropractor is making progress on my back as well as Kendra's so we are both coping with the day to day requirements better. Daily improvement is what we are experiencing and expecting.

My biggest achievement for yesterday and today was walking (slowly) to the mailbox with the twins. I know... it isn't a Nobel prize, but it's more than lying on the floor or couch so I'll take what I can get.

Easton discovered a feather and spent several minutes tossing it in the wind and chasing it down. I spent that time searching for a feather for Layla so she wouldn't steal his.

Then Layla pulled out all of the stops with her Saturday Night Fever dance moves. Easton piled rocks into what he called a birthday cake and then shoved in a few sticks as candles. Remember the neighbor girls in the park, Opa? I think their cake-making in the sand provided the inspiration where Easton got the idea.

Layla finds the exact best spot in the cul-de-sac to scream, "ECHO!" repeatedly so she can here her voice bounce back. She asked to wear her Silvermist fairy costume and of course I agreed.

I convinced the two of them to stand next to each other for a totally contrived picture. Easton is happier than I would be with a fever. I probably should have kept him inside the house and relaxed, but I thought maybe a bit of sunset and walk under the trees would be beneficial.

Layla was sweet enough to pause the play time for a cuddle and self-portrait of us. Her voluntary comments of, "I love you Daddy" make my day.

The end of this story of difficulties and adventures is actually the beginning of our next story. Friday afternoon Neill and Jenny arrive for their annual visit. Getting life squared away and our house in order before tomorrow adds that extra bit of work at a time when we're having the most trouble managing everything. However, it is done, Kendra is fast asleep, and we are all ready and excited to spend time with them. Never a dull moment around here.

See you soon!

back to back

Greetings friends and family,

Life has a funny way of feeling out of control at times. Oddly enough, the most stable things in our lives for the past week were Easton and Layla. I won't get started on my rant about making so many commitments that there is no tolerance for the unexpected. However, i will say we just finished the busiest weekend in the past 2 years. The unexpected wrench in our weekend was my back injury. I'm not sure how long it was brewing from weight training and martial arts, but it "popped" on Friday night. I've been in bed or at least lying down for the past 3 days.

I did my best to entertain and play with the twins so Kendra could focus on her plans. Luckily I didn't loose any quality time with them as a result of the injury. One example of how I was able to interact with them even lying down is when they lined up their cars and airplanes all down my stomach. We had some great times playing with Easton's vehicles.

However, it isn't conducive for helping out around the house so Kendra had to take care of the twins, keep her commitments, and take care of me all at the same time. Poor Kendra...

She has been planning for months and several things just happened to land on the same weekend. The most intense event was a baby shower for our friends Marisue and Scott and 50 other ladies. Well, not so much for Scott because it was a girls-only event. Really the shower was for their expected twin boys, Daniel and Dean, who will arrive in a couple of weeks.

Anyway, Kendra did an awesome job of planning and hosting. She was very pleased with the results. I always wondered, "why people take pictures of the "spread" for parties like this" because I prefer pictures of people. Well, now I know the answer! It is because people put SO much time and effort into it, the food and display are almost like an artist's painting. Kendra baked 68 cupcakes and displayed them like a professional.

Of course nothing this extravagant is pulled off by a single person, even my super-hero wife. April, Laura, and Tam were major players in the success story. Here's Tam and Kendra being their happy, fun selves even in the midst of chaos.

It is no small coincidence we see Kendra doing the robot dance

and Layla doing the same dance. We all know who gives the dance lessons around the Webb house!

Easton's idea of dancing involves running around in circles to the point of dizziness. He is funny and she is graceful. That sums them up in more ways than just dancing!

If you follow the 4 Webb's blog regularly then you probably noticed there are many pictures of Layla in the princess dress. She was given that dress by her cousin, Alana, and asks for it every single day. If Layla had but one outfit in the entire closet and it was that dress, she wouldn't complain or ask for anything else to wear.

Sometimes she wears the princess shoes and ring and tiara and holds princess wand, but it always starts with the dress. Sometimes when she has the wand she'll walk by and touch me gently on the head with it and say, "Wish granted!"

This morning I had the not-so-bright idea to go to a park after breakfast. I thought if we get there early enough it won't be hot. That idea didn't work out so well because it was 95 degrees at 8:30 this morning so the trip to the park was short. Layla had enough time to turn the adventure into a money-making scheme by selling pretend ice cream to Mommy. How entrepreneurial of her.

Easton spent his time pretending to be a dinosaur stuck in the sand as he called for help.

His imagination is very deep. His desire to be creative is one of the things I don't possess, but hope he develops.

One final picture of Easton showing his happy smile. It's not like we let him run around in a diaper through Wal-mart, but at home we're working on transition to his Buzz Lightyear drawers.

Maybe by his 3rd birthday? I sure hope so.

Time to go lay down again since I used up all of my vertical time blogging tonight. :)

See you soon!

Wonton Soup

Greetings friends and family,

The 4 Webbs are moving quickly towards full recovery unlike the "slow growth" in the economy presented by economist. None of us have a fever, but nose-wiping continues. We are still correcting Easton and Layla to ask us for a tissue instead wiping their nose on whatever article of clothing is close by. It takes time, you know... and they aren't accustomed to being sick anyway, so I don't mind their lack of advanced nose-wiping techniques.

The camera has been sitting on the shelf for days now because it's all we can manage to just keep the four of us in order. Have no fear, the camera is back in action as of today and the weekend is almost upon us once again.

My friend, Jason, doesn't read my blog, but tonight as we were hanging out he randomly showed me a YouTube video clip with some guy getting excited about seeing a double rainbow.

I thought it was funny and the guy narrating is a wacko, but the coolest part was the timing of Jason showing me the clip and my last blog post referencing the double rainbow. If I had seen the video clip before last week, then my video clip of our experience would have been much more animated.

A couple of months ago I took the opportunity to be a part of a serious mentoring group. One of the requirements is to read a book per month and write a report about what I learned. Reading these books is turning out to be the most awesome learning experience in the past several years. The list is a great foundational component which should be required reading for anyone serious about leadership.

Crazy Love - Chan
21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership - Maxwell
Mere Christianity – Lewis
Good to Great – Collins
The Jesus I Never Knew – Yancey
What Got You Here, Won’t Get You There – Goldsmith

This set of books is giving me a better understanding of life, leadership, and God than 4 years of college and 2 years of a Masters in Business program. It is extremely motivating for me to see potential along with a plan and a purpose.

On a completely unrelated topic, here is my rant for the week: Even though we spent 6 weeks of the brutal AZ summer in cool Sacramento, we are at our wits-end with the heat around here. Tomorrow is supposed to be 111 degrees and it still has yet to cool down below 84 degrees (ever) for the past 4 months. The air in our house is getting super stale because we never get a chance to open the windows for a cool breeze to clear out the air.

Anyway, back to the twins... Our month-long spending fast is going very well and I'm proud of the 4 Webbs for sacrificing so much for so long. Kendra is finding new, creative ways to entertain and teach. She taped down a few sheets of printing paper to the granite counter top island and then created a collage of stickers, drawing, and newspaper clippings. Tomatoes are on sale at Safeway!

That being said, in a moment of weakness tonight we broke down and went out for Chinese food. Kendra is burnt out from cooking at home so much and we all needed a chance to get out of the house together.

Easton says (in ebonics with the accompanying ghetto hand gesture): "Check it out, yo... Wonton Soup is Da BOMB!"

There is no caption necessary for Layla's picture because of the obvious intensity.

After dinner we drove across the parking lot to The Great Indoors for some window shopping and exercise. As we wandered around Kendra noticed a bedroom suite she liked and I went to investigate the sale price. In a major coincidence, it is called the "Easton" collection. How bizarre...

Then in the bathroom displays we let Easton and Layla try out the showers

and bathtubs.

All 4 of us had a really great time playing around and running down the isles. Easton especially enjoyed the game of stop and go as Kendra yelled, "freeze!" and we would all stop in our tracks. Customer's and store workers were very amused by our silliness, but we didn't mind one bit.

Even on the way home Easton was snorting and giggling as I tickled his legs. Notice anything different about his hair? Kendra took him today for a haircut and she really got our money's worth. I was hoping for something a little less drastic, but I'm sure the hair stylist has the same nonchalant view as Kendra, which is, "no big deal, it'll grow back".

Speaking of "hoping"... Layla is still enthralled with Snow White and her Prince Charming song. She really is my beautiful princess. Here's a video clip of Layla sweetly singing part of the hoping song over and over again.

See you soon!

Double Rainbow

Hi friends and family,

The interesting part about my taking a 2 hour nap is how I go to bed 4 hours later than normal that night. Counter-productive, don't you think? I'm just thankful Easton and Layla took their nap so I could join them.

The 4 Webbs are almost back to healthy, but Kendra and Layla are still suffering with a runny nose while Easton has a slight fever and a froggy voice. Thankfully, I'm still healthy and able to help out. Tomorrow morning I will head out for work and wish Kendra the best of luck with taking care of twins all day.

The weekend was difficult mostly due to dealing with the viral bug manifesting itself in shorter-than-normal tempers and crankiness. Other than that I consider it a success. Kendra and I had a list of 20 things to get done. Now that the weekend is over we have the same 20 things on our list plus a few more. My goal is always to shorten the list on the weekend, but as you know sometimes plans don't work the way we expect.

Double rainbow means double blessing
On the happy side of things we experienced a double rainbow after a huge thunderstorm rolled through the valley. When the twins awoke from their nap I rushed them through snack time and out the door to potentially play in the rain. We missed the rain, but made it in time for the great show in the sky (rainbows) and puddles.

You can barely see the second, outer rainbow in this picture, but it was much more profound in real-life.

The house in the picture is our "old" house where Kendra got pregnant and we just found out the new owners are expecting twin girls! Must be something in the water? We will give them some toys and gifts because we know better than anyone what they are going through right now.

I only captured one rainbow in this next picture, but both Easton and Layla so the most important elements exist.

The event was so unique and interesting that all of our neighbors came out to see and hear it. I mean every single neighbor in our court, too... As we were busy talking to everyone Easton and Layla were literally running through the streets. Kendra was a little unhappy when they started splashing in the puddles, but I convinced her to let them continue. We are a great parenting team because we provide balance for each other.

As a consequence of my allowance for Easton and Layla to run wild for a few minutes, Easton fell flat on the pavement a few times because he was running faster than his feet would carry him. The black smudges on his nose and knees are pavement!

He never cried or even stopped his play time to acknowledge the scratches. Besides, one bath later and he was as good as new! On a side note... I think Easton looks so much like his cousin Silas it's scary. My camera will be on full alert while we are in Missouri next month so I can get some pictures with the two of them together.

Ice Cream Cones
Kendra bought a box of ice cream cones and placed them at eye-level for Easton and Layla in the pantry. The twins have ice cream cone memories from last month at their cousin's birthday party so they knew exactly what the cones were for. Then Kendra bought ice cream and we were entertained by watching them attempt to eat it. Layla thought she was super messy with her white moustache

But Easton took home the trophy that day for messiest eater.

What I'm working on
My next project related to the blog is for Easton. I'm cataloging (sifting through) 15,000+ pictures from the past 30 months to find every one with Easton's face. Then I'll crop each one down to just his face and do a time-lapse morph to see the changes and progress.

I have no idea if it will even work, but it seems really cool when I imagine how it will look. I'm still missing the right song to match with it, but have a few ideas. I've already started working on the project, but this will probably take about 3 months to do it right. Nothing wrong with trying though so we'll see how it goes!

As a final bit of humor, here is a video clip showing a typical dinner at Oma and Opa's house. They are so involved with Eastona and Layla when we get together. We had as much fun watching the twins as they did participating.

Happy Monday to you all and I'll see you soon.

flowers for Layla

Howdy friends and family,

Out of 4 Webbs, I am the only one without a snotty nose and fever. Well, that's not entirely true... I still blow my nose, but the cause is from allergies as opposed to the other three Webb's who are working their way through a cold. It seemed to be an inevitability after I saw Kendra share lunch with Layla and Easton drink from her cup. Still, I had some hope they would dodge the bullet. No such luck.

The clouds kept the temperatures down below the "insane" level yesterday. To celebrate the relative coolness I took the twins to the mailbox for our repetitious trip through the green belt. We did all of the usual stunts such as avoiding ants and peeking over the neighborhood wall to see the train tracks. We also picked flowers (Layla) and shoveled rocks (Easton).

I stayed home from work today and spent hours of quality time with the twins. I was faced with two options. Stay at home and try to keep them busy with puzzles and books or get outside and enjoy the overcast less-than-scorching heat. I decided to do both. Even though they are not feeling well I could tell they would benefit from getting out of the house.

Last week Layla saw I bought a tiny rose bush for Kendra. Knowing Layla wasn't feeling well I stopped by the same grocery store last night and bought a potted flower for Layla.

This morning when we gathered around the kitchen island for breakfast I made a big deal out of it for two reasons:

1. I want Layla to know she is lovely and worthy to feel special. Mommy is first, but Layla is second and I hope she learns how to be treated by my example.

2. Easton. Do you see his inquisitive facial expression? That's the face of a boy who is learning how to treat girls. The scary part is that he is learning from ME and he's learning every second of the day when I interact with Kendra and Layla. If all goes well he will replace his propensity to bite with a desire to give flowers.

We started off the day at the duck park with a few pieces of bread. A duck became a little over-zealous with Layla's generosity and accidently bit her finger. Even though it was a minor incident with nothing more to show for it than a little scare and a few tears (My finger was bit once also) Easton brought it up throughout the day because he felt so bad for her.

Then we went to Best Buy because I have some gift certificates from work. Occasionally I get awards from people at work when I spend several hours fixing other people's problems. I save those up and when something at Best Buy catches my eye then I redeem my gift cards. Easton and Layla outgrew their puppy leashes a long time ago, but they still have not figured out how to obey and stay close by my side. Instead they wander off down the aisle touching every box and shelf along the way. I hope that changes soon...

As we stopped by my doctor's office it was pouring rain outside. Easton and Layla were amazed by the rain and it took some convincing to get them out of the rain and into the car because they were having so much fun.

After that we came home for lunch and then all 4 Webbs were down for a nap (cheers and clapping).

Once they were finished playing ring-around-the-rosy for the 25th time it was my turn to cook dinner since Kendra was gone most of the day. By "cook" dinner, I mean we went to In-N-Out burger, of course.

I caught Easton with a mouth full of fries. It's not his best glamorous picture, but at least he's looking at the camera!

We ended up at Bahama Bucks for a snow cone. I could lie and say we went there because the coldness would feel good for their feverish temperatures. Instead I'll be truthful and say we went there because it burned an hour and I really wanted a treat. It worked out very well and we had an excellent day together.

Tomorrow Kendra has a full day planned with girls and mentoring so I'll have another chance to spend serious quality time playing with and caring for Easton and Layla. I sure hope their fever breaks so they don't have to suffer through that pain any more.

Say a prayer for my babies (including Kendra).

See you soon!

on your mark

Hi Friends and family,

Easton and Layla are blessed with health more than any other toddlers I've ever heard of. At the risk of jinxing the 4 Webbs... Easton and Layla have been sick so few times that I can count them on one hand. We've never been to the emergency room (other than the one time Easton's fever was high and I was paranoid). Yes, I know there will be sickness occasionally and eventually we may have to take an unplanned trip to the hospital. However, I count it as an extreme success for us to have twin two-and-a-half year olds and very few snotty noses or incidents.

I am reiterating the sickness frequency details because many of my friend's children are sick every other day and sometimes for weeks at a time. I know there are many other variables in play such as day care vs. stay at home and individual differences in heredity, etc. That being said, Layla has a fever and a runny nose including frequent snot bubbles, infrequent outbursts of crankiness, and trouble breathing while she sleeps.

I feel so bad for my beautiful princess... My heart also goes out to Kendra who spent the entire 12-hour awake time today keeping up with the overly needy Layla.

When I was home for a couple of hours in the afternoon I did my best to keep them occupied and wear down their batteries. One of my strategies was to let them race back and forth across the length of our house pushing the dump trucks. From the front door...

to the back door.

and repeat about 18 times. They finally understand the timing of, "On your mark, get set, GO!", which makes it much more exciting for me as well. They race across the house giggling and barely make it to the other end without falling over sideways from laughing so much. As you can see Easton is all smiles, but Layla is a little off her game.

We have a huge weekend planned so it should be extra interesting if we need to care for Layla's fever by shuffling around our schedules.

Weeee, bump, splash

Hey friends and family,

The summer doldrums continue here in AZ with night time lows around 86. Our pool turns into the largest bath tub you've ever seen. Even with no ability to play outside we still closely monitor the TV for Easton and Layla through the summer months both in quantity and content. We recently introduced "The Incredibles" to them with great success. Maybe too much success because Easton has taken on the identity of Dash. We visited the Cole's for an afternoon of poolside play time and Easton ran around the house pretending to be Dash. He finally got the concept of "fast".

Especially the part of the movie where Dash runs across the water. The twins laugh hysterically at that section titled, "100 mile Dash".

The momentum carried over into other areas of life for Easton. He flipped a switch somewhere and became more of a risk taker. I drove alone with the twins to the public pool last night to enjoy an evening swim in a more social environment. Unfortunately it was closed to the public. We saved $3.25 by swimming in our own backyard and I improvised to add some new excitement by moving the slide from the living room to pool-side.

Easton amazed me by going first on the slide because I thought Layla would be the trail blazer. And as another shocking moment he eventually asked me to move out of the way and go sit on the steps so he could go down the slide all by himself.

Layla practically jumped off the top of the slide into the pool and after a few times down she turned over on her stomach and went face-first into the pool.

Kendra took them out again today and said their level of daredevil activity is increasing. I'm all for risk-taking as long as it is safe... As an example, here's how we exemplify safety. oversized car seat, 5-point harness seat belt, sun glasses, and doused in sun screen.

Each night the twins request a story from me and they provide the major elements as we get closer to bed time. Each day the expected list of content gets bigger and bigger. Here is what my story last night had to include:

Ariel the mermaid
a BIIIIG dragon
a dinosaur
a castle
a basement
a flashlight
a sword fight
and a pond

By the end of this year my story will be long enough to make a feature length movie at this rate.

Yesterday evening I came home from work to find the usual controlled chaos. Easton and Layla were both talking 100mph telling me about their day. Layla said she wanted to show me her Halloween costume and Kendra agreed to give me a preview. Layla put on her official Cinderella dress and came into the room beaming. I matched my response with her level of enthusiasm.

Then she said, "Daddy, would you like to dance with me?" Her sweet request caught me so off guard I had to quickly recover and say, "yes, I would LOVE to dance with you!" She requested ballerina music (the symphonic radio station on Satellite TV) and we danced in the living room. Even Easton jumped in on the moment and voluntarily told Layla she was beautiful while giving her a hug.

The scene I just described is the polar opposite of the double technical foul for biting just two days earlier. Such is life with twins and the ups and downs of parenting!

See you soon.
