Wonton Soup

Greetings friends and family,

The 4 Webbs are moving quickly towards full recovery unlike the "slow growth" in the economy presented by economist. None of us have a fever, but nose-wiping continues. We are still correcting Easton and Layla to ask us for a tissue instead wiping their nose on whatever article of clothing is close by. It takes time, you know... and they aren't accustomed to being sick anyway, so I don't mind their lack of advanced nose-wiping techniques.

The camera has been sitting on the shelf for days now because it's all we can manage to just keep the four of us in order. Have no fear, the camera is back in action as of today and the weekend is almost upon us once again.

My friend, Jason, doesn't read my blog, but tonight as we were hanging out he randomly showed me a YouTube video clip with some guy getting excited about seeing a double rainbow.

I thought it was funny and the guy narrating is a wacko, but the coolest part was the timing of Jason showing me the clip and my last blog post referencing the double rainbow. If I had seen the video clip before last week, then my video clip of our experience would have been much more animated.

A couple of months ago I took the opportunity to be a part of a serious mentoring group. One of the requirements is to read a book per month and write a report about what I learned. Reading these books is turning out to be the most awesome learning experience in the past several years. The list is a great foundational component which should be required reading for anyone serious about leadership.

Crazy Love - Chan
21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership - Maxwell
Mere Christianity – Lewis
Good to Great – Collins
The Jesus I Never Knew – Yancey
What Got You Here, Won’t Get You There – Goldsmith

This set of books is giving me a better understanding of life, leadership, and God than 4 years of college and 2 years of a Masters in Business program. It is extremely motivating for me to see potential along with a plan and a purpose.

On a completely unrelated topic, here is my rant for the week: Even though we spent 6 weeks of the brutal AZ summer in cool Sacramento, we are at our wits-end with the heat around here. Tomorrow is supposed to be 111 degrees and it still has yet to cool down below 84 degrees (ever) for the past 4 months. The air in our house is getting super stale because we never get a chance to open the windows for a cool breeze to clear out the air.

Anyway, back to the twins... Our month-long spending fast is going very well and I'm proud of the 4 Webbs for sacrificing so much for so long. Kendra is finding new, creative ways to entertain and teach. She taped down a few sheets of printing paper to the granite counter top island and then created a collage of stickers, drawing, and newspaper clippings. Tomatoes are on sale at Safeway!

That being said, in a moment of weakness tonight we broke down and went out for Chinese food. Kendra is burnt out from cooking at home so much and we all needed a chance to get out of the house together.

Easton says (in ebonics with the accompanying ghetto hand gesture): "Check it out, yo... Wonton Soup is Da BOMB!"

There is no caption necessary for Layla's picture because of the obvious intensity.

After dinner we drove across the parking lot to The Great Indoors for some window shopping and exercise. As we wandered around Kendra noticed a bedroom suite she liked and I went to investigate the sale price. In a major coincidence, it is called the "Easton" collection. How bizarre...

Then in the bathroom displays we let Easton and Layla try out the showers

and bathtubs.

All 4 of us had a really great time playing around and running down the isles. Easton especially enjoyed the game of stop and go as Kendra yelled, "freeze!" and we would all stop in our tracks. Customer's and store workers were very amused by our silliness, but we didn't mind one bit.

Even on the way home Easton was snorting and giggling as I tickled his legs. Notice anything different about his hair? Kendra took him today for a haircut and she really got our money's worth. I was hoping for something a little less drastic, but I'm sure the hair stylist has the same nonchalant view as Kendra, which is, "no big deal, it'll grow back".

Speaking of "hoping"... Layla is still enthralled with Snow White and her Prince Charming song. She really is my beautiful princess. Here's a video clip of Layla sweetly singing part of the hoping song over and over again.

See you soon!
