Bye-bye summer

Hi friends and family,

The chilly nights dipping down into the mid 70's resulted in reluctance from Easton and Layla to swim. We jumped in this evening and found the 85 degree water to be refreshing. Not so much for the twins. They sat on the first step with their feet barely in the water enough to splash us. Layla has a fever of 101 degrees so she has an excuse why it felt a little colder than she would like.

GOma coaxed them into the pool slowly and they did a few laps before asking to go inside. It appears the summer swim season is almost officially over. one more day of dealing with that and I'm going to hang up the arm band floaties. As a summary of their swimming accomplishments here is a short list.

- They hold their breath and put their face in the water or blow bubbles
- They float on their backs with the assistance of the floaties and kick across the pool
- Layla will run and jump from the side and Easton jumps from the top step.
- They love to run like Dash (from The Incredibles). Meaning, I pick them up in the pool and they pretend to run across the water as I swing them around.
- Prior to getting out of the pool we take off their floaties and push them under water towards the step as they kick.

Should be interesting to see what progress they make on the first day of summer next year when considering they will spend so many months away from the pool, but grow and mature between now and then.

GOma and I took the twins to Lowe's to buy home supplies. In the parking lot Layla jumped out on my side of the car so I took the opportunity to catch a picture of us.

The twins ran up and down the isles eventually stopping at the display of sliding glass doors. As if he doesn't get enough of peek-a-boo at home all day, Easton slid the door and screamed like crazy.

And, of course, Layla didn't want to be out-done so she gave it a try as well.

Easton does well to keep his emotions under control when he is sick. Layla has a more difficult time with that so she had a few time-out moments tonight. I sure hope she feels better soon.

Our time with Neill and Jenny is proving to be more interesting and fun than we expected (and our expectations were really high to begin with). Last night we were all laughing so hard I had to lay down on the floor because my stomach muscles hurt so bad. It was THAT funny for that long. seriously. We've been staying up until 11:00 PM every night talking. Kendra is usually in bed by 9:30, but we lose track of time and it's very well worth it.

When Layla hopped out of the bath tub she was shivering. I wrapped her up in two big, fluffy towels to warm her up and take advantage of the short opportunity to cuddle with her. She's such a shooting star that it is an ultra-rare situation when she is sitting still in my arms for more than a few seconds.

As I sat on the floor holding Layla she asked to go see GOma. More specifically, she wanted me to carry her in there. My back injury is MUCH better, but I'm still not in any shape to carry anything. None the less I stood up and carried her into the living room. GOma got Layla's blanket where she rested like a bug in a rug for a few minutes.

To top it all off for the twins, they experienced an unplugged (a capella) version of Jenny's singing for their bed-time songs. How privileged they are without even knowing it.

See you soon!
