Leaves and Trees

Hey friends and family,

Christmas is several days away, but the gifts and blessings from Oma and Opa are already raining down. The twins received their first Big Wheel in appropriately colored design. They even have working turn signals!

Layla has Dora the Explorer (Thank God the instructions weren't in Spanish) and Easton has Thomas the Train. We brought their helmets so they are safe to motor around the driveway under parental supervision. Easton's favorite way to ride is to shove off down the driveway and lift his legs up all the way across the street where he slams into the neighbors curb. He giggles, turns around, and shuffles (not pedals) his way back to the driveway for another run.

Easton was amazed by the size of the leaves clumped at the base of the trees around here. They don't grow 'em that big in Arizona...

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, how lovely are thy tree farms. We took the whole family (minus uncle Logan) out to the tree farm to cut down our first real Christmas tree since before we were married. The near record high temperature (68 degrees) made for a perfect day to go run through the trees. And we sure did!

Layla looks like a clothing company model in her fluffy boots and stylish look. Seeing her pony tail bob around as she darted in and out of the trees was especially entertaining.

Easton took his time trotting over the mounds of dirt resulting from planting the trees in rows. His method proved to be more successful because Layla tripped and ate some mud, but Easton came away without a scratch while having just as much fun as Layla. We played some extensive games of hide-n-seek there.

Uncle Casey and I chased the twins around while Oma and Kendra searched for the perfect tree. After selecting "the ONE" we were able to saw it down with our own hands. By "we" I mean uncle Casey. I just bent the tree over to keep it from falling on him. We sure do look manly with the saw and trees in the background!

Uncle Casey is strong enough to hold both of the monkeys up at the same time. This is a classic picture that captures the fun experience of the tree cutting adventure.

This next picture is just TOO perfect. Sing along with me now:

All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
I went for a walk
On a winter's day
I'd be safe and warm
If I was in L.A.
California dreamin'
On such a winter's day

If I'm not mistaken, Kendra has seen Megan every single day since we arrived. No one is complaining though. Quite the opposite in fact. I'm happy for her to spend quality time with her friend and the twins obviously are having a blast playing with Isabella.

Easton jumped in on the cooking action, but refrained from wearing a princess dress. We'll have to bring his space suit next time.

We all know and except that it's "all about Oma" since the first morning they woke up in California. Even so, Opa is getting lots of "I love you's" and hugs and even the occasional cuddle time while reading books.

Easton and Layla look so cute in their snowman pajamas. Looking at this picture makes me think of how proud I am to have such wonderful happy-go-lucky kids. Beyond their intelligence and growth it is easy for me to enjoy them at this age just the way they are and a small part of me wishes that would never change.

I can't wait for their first experience in the snow next week. We'll be making the drive up north for snow angels, snow balls, and tube sledding.

See you soon!
