Chuck E. Cheese

Hi friends and family,

At some point it is not good for a person to talk to inanimate objects. I need to figure out what age that occurs. For as long as I can remember we say good-bye to the park as we walk away, airplanes flying overhead, and the church as drive away. There is no real purpose or reason for doing this, but I started thinking how it won't be good for them to be school-aged kids speaking to inanimate objects.

Thoughts?

And in other adventures… The 4 Webbs survived a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese’s. Other parents told me horror stories of discovering dirty diapers in the room full of balls and gross things that would make a msyophobic person go into convulsions. I’m happy to report no such disturbing mishaps occurred during our adventure. The ironic subplot of the story is Layla’s runny nose. She was patient zero spreading her own germs in the land of the unclean.
Anyway, we all had a great time dumping tokens into the game machines including skee ball, air hockey, and ride-on toys. Easton’s favorite was the train ride (big surprise there).

After the short, 20 second ride he stayed put in the conductor’s seat with a big grin on his face. I could have predicted his next sentence down to the intonation of his voice. Right on cue he calmly says, “How ‘bout AGAIN!?”

Layla’s favorite game was skee ball. I have no pictures because both hands were busy keeping her from throwing the rock-hard balls overhand at the poor, dented cage surrounding the concentric hoops inside the machine.

The twins earned 25 tickets between the two of them (another advantage of twins… twice the tickets!) However, I was disappointed to learn 25 tickets doesn’t even earn a crappy bracelet, but it did get us two little, hardened, plastic frogs where you push down on their butt and they flip over. Certainly not the highlight of the night, but I felt a certain sense of accomplishment.

Chuck E. Cheese positioned a huge, 8 foot tall merry-go-round horse at the entrance. The twins were both interested to find out what it did so they climbed the stairs, sat inside and sat motionless as the monstrous horse rocked ever so slowly back and forth.

The real highlight of the night was singing happy birthday to Parker and eating his cake. Followed by the funniest moment, which was watching the 3 year old spit all over the birthday cake while blowing out the candles. Followed by the most apathetic moment when we ate the cake anyway. If you can't beat 'em...

One of Easton's few male friends is Daniel. He posed peacefully by Chuck E's side so I took a picture. Mostly this will be used as we browse through photo albums on the computer. They love seeing pictures of friends and family they know. Daniel is a model citizen for a well-mannered, happy child.

Daniel is 6 months older and a whole lot bigger than the twins so I get a sneak preview of what to expect in (roughly) 6 months. Daniel was tall enough and coordinated enough for a solid round of air hockey with Brendon.

The dual alarm clocks went off almost simultaneously indicating it was time to go. Layla had a melt-down in front of the birthday crowd when we told her it was time to go. She was having such a fun time with her friends that our lack of proper "transition" led to a stern talking-to outside of the pizza place.

On an unrelated note, I found this article regarding "how to potty train twins". Kendra and I are still grappling with the general approach for Easton and Layla

I spent the past 3 days trying to upload a video, but for some reason keeps failing... technology works great until it doesn't.

We're packing up for Sacramento holiday festivities so if you send us a package we won't get it in time. BTW, I don't read my facebook mail very often...

See you soon!

Bronson, I'm having problems uploading videos, too! Is your camera using an HD card? Ours is and I'm wondering if it just can't be supported for some reason. Our other videos (not HD) uploaded just fine a while back. Hhhmmmm. Glad you all survived Chuck's! I have to say that it hasn't been my favorite place for birthday parties, but I can see the attraction for both the children AND parents. The kids get to run around and play a ton of different games and the parents can sit back and watch...or I guess the moms sit back and the dads get to play, too!

Sometimes even people act like objects and don't say proper good-byes or hellos. Let the kids keep saying it to anyone/thing. It's sweet, good practice and helps with transitions. My kiddos keep immitating Layla's adorable intro, "Nice to meet you, I'm Fairy Layla!" It was clear, confident and proper. Way to go!

Hey Marisue, my videos aren't HD, but that particular video is larger than normal (about 100 MB). Chuck E's may be relaxing for parents once the kids are older than 3, but for us it was a constant chase and engery zapper.

Thanks, Joanie, for the feedback. It's great to know we're still on the right track with those details.
