more rain please?

Greetings friends and family,

Happy Labor Day weekend. I have tomorrow off from work, but it still hasn't quite sunk in yet. I catch myself thinking about what I need to do for work tomorrow and what meetings are scheduled. It'll sink in tomorrow when I wake up and have breakfast with Kendra and the twins instead of rushing out the door with my familiar phrase, "Daddy is going to work so behave for Mommy today."

Yesterday was overcast and cool (relatively speaking) for the entire day. The temperature dropped below 80 for the first time in months! I woke up to a chilly 77 degrees outside and immediately made plans to spend the day enjoying the palatable weather with the 4 Webbs together. The park in our subdivision was demolished and rebuilt over the summer. Now the park includes a huge covered play structure. I'm certain Layla and Easton will become very familiar with it over the next few months as we take advantage of the nicer weather.

During the day we experienced a few light sprinkles. Easton and Layla have only felt rain drops one other time in their whole life until yesterday so it was a special occasion of sorts. I escorted them onto the driveway where they furrowed their brow and blinked rapidly as the drops pelted them. You can see the dark, ominous clouds overhead as Easton shuffled across the driveway.

Rain is a difficult thing to conceptualize for toddlers in Arizona. Even though they regularly sing, "The itsy bitsy spider song" every week at the library it still doesn't carry much meaning regarding the rain that washed the spider out unless you've actually been in the rain to know what it is.

Layla and Easton loved wondering around as the sprinkles fell, but you can see Kendra waiting patiently in the doorway. She expressed her frustration over my taking them outside without shoes on because she knew their feet would be caked with dirt and grit from the driveway. She was right... but it was well worth it for the twins to know "what is rain?" through first hand experience.

Easton and I went to the bike shop in search of a replacement tube while Kendra and Layla stayed home for some girl time together. Kendra does a ton of cooking from her "deceptively delicious" cook book. The ironic part is that Layla stirs in the spinach without even knowing that is the ingredient part of the casserole Mommy is hiding.

Layla's hair is finally growing in and I can't wait to see her in pigtails and braids. According to Oma and her experience with Kendra's hair, I won't see that day until well after her 2nd birthday.

We are gearing up for the 4 hour flight to Missouri in a couple of weeks. I'm very anxious about how Easton and Layla will do in an airplane for the first time, but I'm also very excited to visit my family and get away for a well-deserved vacation.

Enjoy your day off! I certainly will...
