banana proficient

Greetings!

We are heavily researching the ins and outs of air travel with toddlers. It is clear cargo space allowed in the airplane will be significantly smaller than the 90.3 cubic feet in our Honda Pilot. Our impending trip to Missouri with 2 toddlers, 2 car seats, 3 suitcases, and travel gear is turning into a bigger project than I thought.

For the past 18 months we just stuffed the Pilot with everything we could possibly need and drove to California. Now we are going to Missouri, which requires a flight instead of attempting a 27 hour drive (whew, that's a long drive).

Whatever advice you can provide is greatly appreciated. Feel free to give us a call if you have more to say than what fits in the comment field of our blog. :)

Layla discovered the play phone with wheels can be used for more than just dragging it around the house. She decided to sit on it and roll around the kitchen.

Easton followed suit, but learned the hard way that weight distribution is important as he fell over backwards. I did get a picture of him disobeying our request NOT to stand on the couch. This is a battle we are fighting lately. Neither of the twins really make the connection between standing on the couch results in sitting on the timeout mat as discipline.

The twins are becoming more fun as they are willing to do funny things on command now. I told Layla to show me her "hotdog dance" (from the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cartoon) and this is the result:

I really want to get this on video along with her singing the ABC song and twinkle, twinkle.

Take a long look at Easton's long, shaggy hair. Tomorrow morning we are going to the haircut place for kids to get his hair chopped down. My side of the family will take official portraits while we are in Missouri. Consequently, Kendra doesn't want our special boy to have a mullet. I thought that was weird to cut off his mullet so we can go to Missouri? That seems backwards to me. I was hoping to grow it out so he can show his cousins.

After all, a mullet really says, "business in the front, party in the back"! I can't believe they have a wikipedia article for mullets...

Not only is Kendra successfully helping Easton and Layla to eat Cheerios with a spoon, she also wants them to be banana-proficient. The idea is to reduce the amount of work on our part related to cutting the banana up into small chunks and hand-feeding it to them one piece at a time.

Instead, now we just cut the banana in half and do some preliminary peeling... That's it. Once they figured out the peel is disgustingly bitter, they learned to pull it off like good monkeys.

Even more impressive than that... They open the trashcan and put the peel inside when they're done! Now that's what I call progress.

The twins call a banana, "Nana". This will have to change before next week when we see my parents because they are known as "Papa" and "Nana". My mom looks nothing like a banana so it should be interesting to decipher if they are asking for my mom or a banana.

Hey Bronson,

Great stuff in the post! Easton has got some great hair, so I'm sure it will be sad for you guys to chop it.

Good luck on the air travel. The last time we did it Landon was only 9 months old, so we gave him a little Benadryl before the flight (advice directly from our pediatrician) and he slept the entire time...I'm just not sure that would work now that they're 18 months.

Have a good one!
