Greetings friends and family,
I found this list of terms from the KidDictionary and then added on a few extras from a father of two sets of girl/girl twins. The term "Twinpact" is especially funny to me because I experience this every day when I arrive home from work. These words were designed to describe the predicaments a parent is exposed to when they have a set of multiples in their brood.
TWINSOMNIA (twin-SAHM-nee-uh) n.:: The lack of sleep a mom of multiples experiences when her kid's sleeping schedules fall out of synch.
STAYDATE (STAY-dayt) n.: The luxury/burden of always having a built in friend for your multiples to play/fight with any time they’re home together.
TWINGUISTICS (twin-GWISS-tiks) n.: The unique language that baby multiples use to communicate with one another that is completely indecipherable by anyone else.
DUMBASK (DUMM-ask) n.; A person who asks if your Twins who are a boy and a girl are “identical.”
TWINTERFERENCE (twin-tehr-FEER-entz) n.: When one multiple distracts the parent while the other pulls a fast one
TROUBLESUM (TRUBB-uhl-sum) adj.: The increased amount of trouble that can be found when multiple children work together to find it.
COORDTWINATE (co-ORD-twin-ayt) v.: To dress your multiples in matching outfits.
TWINIQUITY (twin-ICK-witt-ee) n.: The fundamental unfairness inherent in having multiples, due to the fact that you have to take care of more than one baby after only getting to have sex once.
MULTIPLOY (MULL-tuh-ploy) v.: When Multiples band together and deviously conspire against their parents.
MASSTONISHMENT (mass-TOHN-ish-ment) n.: The shock of suddenly being substantially out numbered by your children when you add a set of multiples to your household
Another DUMBASK is when a person asks “are they natural”, to which we normally reply “no, they’re synthetic”.
TWINPATHY: the discount some stores give you when they see you have to buy 2 cribs, 2 high chairs, 2 car seats,
TWUG: getting 2 hugs at once
TWINPACT: sometime a twug is accompanied by twinpact, which is being knocked on your butt when two 2-year olds run up and hug you at once.
PAIRENTING: taking care of both kids by yourself
DISPAIR: the occasional feeling of being overwhelmed
OKC Vacation 2011 is in full swing. Luckily tornado season ended two weeks ago. I'm relieved to hear the tornadoes got the memo about the official closing of the season. I feel much safer. :)
Travelling was adventurous as always, but uneventful. Trina graciously drove us to the airport, the flight was on time, and the twins behaved well from start to finish.
Their backpacks were filled with toys and snacks. I wanted to include a brick or two just to wear them out even more, but their batteries were plenty drained by the end of the day. People passing us in the airport smiled and commented how cute they were. They are such great, happy kids and I'm glad their happiness rubs off on people who pass us by.
On the way home from the airport we stopped by the cemetery. Seems odd and demented, but I was glad we went. There are several relatives buried in this one small area. Easton's middle name (Troy) is from my Dad's middle name and his dad's first name.
And for an additional level of creepiness, my Aunt Mary (who we are staying with) has her plot next to Uncle Dave.
Next to my Grandpa Webb is my uncle Dave who died 3 weeks after Easton and Layla were born.
As soon as we arrived at Aunt Mary's house and toured the house we went straight to the back yard. She has a huge acreage with a big path cut through the dense forest. Easton and Layla were wide-eyed as we climbed up the steep hill.
The twins haven't experienced much "walking through the woods" since we live in the barren desert of Phoenix. I noticed the path was lined with poison ivy and poison oak, to which I'm very much allergic. Luckily the path was wide and well-mowed enough that I wasn't too worried.
Here's the back of Mary's house where we're spending most of our time hanging out:
We are planning adventures around town, but more than anything I want to just relax and spend time with my family and Mary. The less I accomplish in a day, the more of a success I consider it.
See you soon!
