Instruments

Hi friends and family,

We are getting into the stage of raising kids where birthday parties on the weekend are becoming regular events. We used to get one invite every couple of months, but now I ask, "who's birthday party are we attending this weekend?" I expected this weekend to be party free, but then our neighbors came by with an invite for a party later in the day. Unfortunately Easton is fighting a fever and sniffles and I'm lying down with back pain and a contorted spine. Kendra and Layla were able to attend, which means I had individual time with Easton.

As soon as the door closed behind Kendra and Layla, Easton and I had this conversation:

Easton: "Can you play with me?"
Me: "Yes, I will! What do you want to do? We can play anything you want"
Easton: "Dinosaurs, trains, cars, and airplanes."

He listed all of his favorite toys and that's exactly what we did. Then Layla and Kendra came home with exuberance and part favors. Once we taught the twins how to blow the party horns they turned them into weapons. That is, when they could keep from laughing long enough to blow air into it.

Easton wanted his horn to make noise so he laid next to me and I showed him how. He picked it up quickly and then went back into battle with Layla.

We spent a fun evening with our friends Scott and Marisue and their twin boys. The boys are a few months old now so their household is leveling out enough to entertain guests. We sure know how that goes!

Scott has plenty of cool toys like original Star Wars action figures, trains, legos, and this thing:

He said his mom bought it from some Amish vendors, which explains the great hand-crafted nature and design. Easton was hypnotized by the cadence of the marbles clicking and clacking their way down through the wooden maze. It kept his attention much longer than I expected. So much so that I'll be on the lookout to buy one for our house.

Layla discovered Marisue's piano and decided she would give it the Layla test of indestructibility. Marisue was such a sport to put up with the loud playing especially because she was suffering from a migraine before Layla even started! Easton joined in and you can only imagine the joy they felt playing together.

I caught a video of Layla because we were amazed she was able to play and sing at the same time.

Easton showed quite an interest in the babies. We told him he was a little baby like that and having the 3-D experience of a live baby to interact with really drove the point home for him.

Kendra had a great time holding and cuddling with the babies. However, during this picture she made a point to say, "These babies are so adorable, but I have no desire to have more children even during moments like this."

I'm not sure how many posts i'll get to this week because Kendra is working overtime to take care of me and the twins and her knee. That means there aren't many opportunities for pictures. :)

See you soon!

Thanks for braving the mess in our house and coming over for dinner! We usually feel like we have to clean and prepare when people come over. Having you two over, who have been where we are, made for a guilt-free evening. Dinner was delicious (I was able to eat later on) and the company was wonderful! We promise to have a table and chairs available for Easton & Layla to eat their dinner on. :0) And, hopefully next time I won't have a migraine and I'll be able to join Easton & Layla at the piano! Love you guys, and your genuine friendship!

Guilt free and enjoyable, for sure! It's always refreshing to be around those who can truly understand what it's like to have twins (or more). We look forward to more time together as the days go by.
